At the end of April we said a fond farewell to the Gloucestershire's longest serving magistrate. Jim Horne joined the North Cotswold Bench in 1970 and has served the magistracy with distinction for 36 years. He held various offices over the years including having been chairman of the North Cotswold Bench at Stow on the Wold, chairman of the North Gloucestershire Bench when Cheltenham, Stow and Tewkesbury merged, chairman of the licensing committee. During Jim's presidency of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club he started the, now traditional magistrates' day at the Cheltenham Festival. Jim attended the Spring training day the day before his last sitting at Cheltenham on Thursday 27th. April. At the training day a presentation was made to Jim

Some of the members of the North Gloucestershire Licensing committee at a celebration dinner at the passing of the alcohol licensing to the local authorities. We must have done a good job as we administered it for 700 years !!

Pictured here from left to right, Jenny Oakley, Mandy Garstang and Deidre Waddell who have just retired from the Gloucestershire branch executive after 43 years service.
All three have been magistrates since the 1970's and have served their local branch on council. They have given outstanding service to both the lay magistracy and the Magistrates Association.
Matthew Pink, Justices' Clerk for the County of Gloucestershire retired on 31st. December 2004 from the Magistrates' Courts Service after 31 years. Matthew will be missed by all Gloucestershire Magistrates for his sound advice, training and wonderful sense of humour. He is pictured here at the Retirement dinner given in his honour with past and present Magistrates from the North Gloucestershire Branch. Matthew sadly passed away on 10th. July 2006.
acknowledgement to the Gloucestershire Echo for the photograph.
